Testimony Brings Freedom (Aviela Groder)

Have you ever experienced the release that comes from finally telling a secret? From sharing a story you’ve carried in your heart for so long?

I remember the first time I shared my testimony. I expected to feel shame or embarrassment. I thought I would walk away feeling exposed, wishing I had kept those parts of my story hidden. Instead, I experienced something completely different. I shared my story with a group of people who needed to hear where my freedom had come from, and in that moment, I found even more freedom myself.

There is something powerful about testifying to the goodness of God. When we share His grace, the freedom He has given us, and the relationship we have built with Him, we experience a deeper level of healing and release. Our testimony isn’t just for someone else’s benefit. God uses it to continue reminding us of His faithfulness, too.

Every time I tell my story, I think back to that first moment of vulnerability. I remember how freeing it was to say, “This is what I struggled with. This is who I used to be. But this is who I am now, and Jesus is what happened in between.”

There is so much joy in telling the story of how Jesus saved us. There is freedom in admitting that it wasn’t by our own strength that we were changed. Like the words of the old hymn say, “I once was lost, but now I’m found.” Every part of our transformation points back to Him.

When we give God the glory, something changes within us. Our souls are refreshed, our spirits are filled with joy, and we step into what we were created to do: glorify the Lord. One of the greatest ways we can do that is by sharing how faithful He has been throughout our lives and how He has brought us out of the places we once walked in.

So this month, I want to encourage you to write out your story.

Even if it’s difficult. Even if there are chapters you still feel embarrassed to revisit. Even if there are moments that once filled you with shame.

The truth is, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Shame no longer has the final word because Jesus already carried it to the cross. When we allow the Lord to heal and transform us, we are then able to share that freedom with others. We can honestly say, “This is what I once carried, but the Lord has set me free.”

And when we choose to live in that freedom, we give others permission to step into the light as well.

So write your testimony. Share it with a friend over coffee. Talk about it with someone you trust. Maybe even post a small part of your story online. It doesn’t have to be dramatic or perfectly polished. It simply has to point people to Jesus.

As Christians, we are called to make Him known. One of the most powerful ways we can do that is through our own stories of grace, redemption, and the life-changing faithfulness of God.

And maybe that is the beautiful mystery of testimony: the more we share what God has done, the more freedom we experience ourselves. Our stories do not lose power when they are spoken; they multiply it. What once felt heavy becomes a source of healing, not only for us but for everyone who hears. So keep telling your story. Keep giving God glory. Every time you do, you are stepping further into freedom and inviting someone else to do the same.
