Why do we need community?
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.””
Matthew 18:20 NIV
So why is it important that we have community?
Community is a gift from God and is essential to our walks with God, but Why? Here are just a few ways having a community can help us.
Encouragement
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV
Hebrews tells us not to neglect getting together but to encourage each other. Life is hard. We all have days we struggle and feel inadequate, alone, anxious, etc. and it’s good to have people we can reach out to for encouragement and to also be that person someone can reach out to as well.
Accountability
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
James 5:16 NIV
It is important to have that accountability. Whenever we speak our struggle whether it begin or anything else we deal with, out loud Satan loses his power over that situation and we become free from it. Also when we confess to their people it allows them to be over to pray over the situation and bring it to the feet of the Father.
To share the load
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.””
Mark 2:5 NIV
This verse comes from the passage where the paralyzed man’s friend took him to Jesus but it was too crowded so the climbed on the roof and lowered him down and because of his friends faith Jesus healed him. We can’t do this alone. Life all by itself is too much for us to bare alone. We have to lean on Jesus and the community he has gifted to us.
Prayer
““Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.””
Matthew 18:19-20 NIV
Like it says in Matthew 18 when we gather together in prayer He is right there in the middle. Praying for each other is one of the biggest acts of love we can do towards one another and prayer especially when we pray for each other can move mountains.
Where is community found?
Church, small groups, school, even work!
