Miracles in the Mundane (Rachel Reeves)

ree

When you think of the word miracle, what comes to mind? Maybe you think of being healed from an illness or disease. Maybe you think of a loved one coming to Christ. Or maybe you think of that big prayer that seems to go unheard.

Webster dictionary defines a miracle as an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs.

Two months ago, I heated up my favorite, beautiful stoneware saucer. This saucer was unlike any you could pick up from Target or order from Amazon. It was a vintage stoneware piece gifted from my husband’s great aunt. When I went to pour from the cup, I noticed dozens of cracks. Big cracks. Little cracks. Cracks all over the side of this cup. I was devastated. That night, I didn’t have the heart to throw it away. I left it there on the table deciding that I would get rid of it in the morning. When I woke, I picked it up and turned it over. No cracks. I turn it over again. Still no cracks. I couldn’t believe it.

At this moment, instead of praising God for this miracle, I googled. I googled if stoneware could heal itself over night. As I googled, I felt the Lord gently say, “If you cannot believe in this little miracle, then how can you believe in the big ones?”.

What a moment of loving conviction. It reminded me of Deuteronomy 10:21, “He is your praise and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awe-inspiring works your eyes have seen”.

What if we are experiencing miracles every day and we just aren’t noticing them?

I’m not talking just about the tangible, healing-a-broken-cup miracle. Christian singer, Tauren Wells, wrote:

“We often rob ourselves of life’s most significant moments because we have been convinced that something extraordinary or spectacular must take place for something to be supernatural and significant. Jesus illustrated that it can happen like that, but also that the miracles of life happen in the mundanity of life.”

Your newborn sleeping through the night is a miracle. The sunshine when rain was forecasted is a miracle. That job promotion was a miracle. There is no coincidence or luck. We must give all glory to God.

For those struggling or in disbelief that God is working miracles in your life, let me remind you - your life is a miracle. The breath in your lungs is a miracle. Paul spoke in Acts 17:25, “And He is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, He himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.” When was the last time we thanked Him for this life and breath?

For those who have been praying and it seems as though the clouds are out and the door is shut, keep praying. Keep hope. We serve a God of miracles. We serve a God of hope.

Lord, thank you for the blessings that we see and the blessings that we don’t see. Help us to put on a Christlike lens. Help us to see the blessings and miracles in the mundane. I pray that we are reminded of James 1:17, Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.[a] He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” It is not by our works or effort, but by Yours. We praise You.

God, You are good. God, You are good to us. God, You are good at being God. Amen.

Do you believe God is your Shepherd?  Do you believe God is your GOOD Shepherd?  There were lots of flocks in these times but God specifically referred to Him as the Shepherd and us as the sheep.  Why
